Tiny Bird Vintage
I have always been fascinated by beautiful everyday objects and decorations from times past. I have a particular affinity for simple things that would have been owned by working class and middle-class ladies, like my grandmothers.
Milk glass, American Pottery (like McCoy, Abingdon,Hull, and Shawnee), depression glass, gingham aprons, pyrex refrigerator dishes, toleware trays, etc. My newest obsession in original oil paintings. I have a beautiful little painting of roses, probably made in the ’40s signed simply, “Ruth.” Who was Ruth? I have another charming oil signed, JoAnne. Did she go to art school and then get married and have kids? Or become an art teacher? Did JoAnne or Ruth put down their brushes for decades? Uh oh, I think I have the start of a new collection- paintings by unknown women artists.
Everything has a story. Every time I find one of these little treasures (and I find a lot) discarded by someone who didn’t or couldn’t see their beauty, I rescue it for a few dollars and add it to my collection. The rest I sell in my Etsy shop. https://www.etsy.com/shop/tinybirdvintagehome?ref=search_shop_redirect I guess I have “the eye.” I can quickly scan a shelf of junk in a thrift store and narrow in on the mid-century vase or survey a stack of cheap prints and find charming original paintings. I probably spend a little too much time at thrift stores, but hey! There are worse things! In my real life, I work in Theater and as a singer but mostly I take care of my 3 kids, my cute husband, and my little rescue mutt, Ziggy! I love to make my home a beautiful place to be and I like to do it with a very small budget!
